Cyclone Vayu Alert!! 3 Lakh people evacuated, flight services affected

With cyclone ‘Vayu’ advancing towards the Gujarat coast, the state government has launched a massive evacuation exercise to shift around 3 lakh people from areas of Saurashtra and Kutch regions in Gujarat.

As per the recent reports, the cyclone is likely to hit the Gujarat coast on the morning of June 13th.

Highlights

1– The Indian Meteorological Department said, “Cyclone ‘Vayu’ is now at 280 km south-southwest of Mumbai. Winds over North Maharashtra coast are likely to be 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph.”

2– The cyclone has severely affected the flight services in the region. Flight operations from Ahmedabad to Porbandar, Diu, Kandla, Mundra and Bhavnagar are cancelled for 13th June, i.e., Thursday.

3– All other scheduled flights are likely to operate normally as of now. However, it is advisable that passengers check with the concerned airlines for updated information.

4– Western Railway will run special evacuation trains starting today.

5– The Gujarat tourism department has urged travellers, who have planned their visits in coming two-three days, to postpone as the cyclonic storm intensifies.
