Northeast connectivity gets a boost! Railways completes track electrification between these 2 cities

Great news for travellers! Guwahati, the biggest city of Assam, will finally be now connected with all major cities of India on seamless electric traction.

Indian Railways’ Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) zone has successfully completed the electrification work of a total of 649 route kilometers from Katihar to Guwahati.

How is this going to benefit the common people?

A) With the electrification of the railway network till Guwahati, additional Rajdhani Express trains can now be introduced for Northeastern states including Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Sikkim.

B) 15 pairs of existing trains originating/terminating at Kamakhya(KYQ)/Guwahati(GHY) can run with an additional passenger coach by eliminating one power car, thus improving passenger capacity.

C) Running time between Guwahati and Katihar/Malda Town is likely to be reduced by up to twohours as trains can now move at a higher speed due to better acceleration/ deceleration.

D) Due to seamless train operations, traction change at New Jalpaiguri andNew Cooch Behar will now be done away with, enhancing the mobility of the trains.

E) Passenger trains can run with higher speed and heavier goods trains can be operated.
