The unveiling of the prototype took place at the Duhai Depot, Ghaziabad. This first of its kind rail will run on the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor and will cover the distance between Delhi and Meerut of 82 kilometres in 55 minutes.

The RRTS (Regional Rapid Transport System) is expected to have the frequency of 5-15 minutes and an average speed of 100 kmph. The coaches will have 2×2 transverse seating and will offer overhead luggage spaces. There will also be a reserved coach for women in these rails.

The environment-friendly and very low emission RRTS will carry many times more people while occupying only 3 metres of space on land, thereby reducing congestion on the roads. Consequently, this project will reduce the carbon dioxide emissions by a significant margin in the National Capital Region.
