Chennai International Airport, originally known as Madras International Airport until the city’s renaming in 1996, features terminals named after two former Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu: the Kamaraj Domestic Terminal and the Anna International Terminal, which were formally designated in 1989. Aviation activity at this site began in 1930 with the Madras Flying Club, making it one of the oldest operational airports in the country. As of the 2023-2024 fiscal year, it ranks as the fifth-busiest airport in India by passenger traffic, facilitating the movement of over 21 million travelers annually.
