Dabolim International Airport, Goa

Goa International Airport, widely known as Dabolim Airport, was established in 1955 by the government of Portuguese India as Aeroporto de Dabolim. Following the 1961 annexation of Goa, the facility was integrated into the Indian Navy’s INS Hansa base while continuing to serve as a civil enclave. It opened in 1955 as the state's first major aviation facility and served as its sole international gateway for nearly seven decades until the commissioning of a second airport in north Goa in 2023. According to Airports Authority of India data for the 2023–2024 fiscal year, the airport handled approximately seven million passengers, ranking it as the eleventh busiest airport in India. While it does not currently feature in the top 100 global rankings, it remains a critical node for chartered international flights. Significant developments include the inauguration of a 62,000-square-meter integrated terminal building in December 2013, which significantly expanded passenger capacity. In 2023, the airport achieved Level 3+ Neutrality status under the Airport Carbon Accreditation program, reflecting its transition to renewable energy sources, including the installation of a 5-megawatt on-site solar power plant. As the primary entry point to India’s most prominent tourism destination, the airport facilitates the arrival of millions of domestic and international visitors drawn to Goa’s UNESCO World Heritage sites and coastal resorts. It also supports the region's industrial growth, particularly in the pharmaceutical and logistics sectors, by providing essential air cargo connectivity.
