The water from the heater was solid brown color and did not go away even after leaving it open. I did not use bathroom for the whole day.

For the price it's a good place. However it's not walkable distance from any good attractions. Food not easily available but can be ordered on Swiggy. Staff is very helpful

The property has a heritage-looking appearance, but unfortunately that was the only positive aspect of our experience. The pricing is not particularly budget-friendly either; it is comparable to several other accommodations in Pondicherry that offer significantly better standards.Our experience with the management was particularly concerning. The person in charge contacted me and asked me to cancel the Booking.com reservation and book directly with him instead, offering a substantial discount if I did so. This immediately made me uncomfortable, especially since Booking.com had given us the option to pay at the property/check-in.We eventually made an advance payment after being persuaded by the management, but the reality we encountered on arrival was very different from what we had expected.It took us barely 10 minutes at the property to realise that we could not stay there for two days. The location felt unsafe, the water appeared unhygienic, the toilets were dirty, and the air-conditioning was not functioning properly. These were not minor inconveniences—we simply did not feel comfortable staying there with our family.We left almost immediately and requested that our advance payment be refunded. Unfortunately, it was not.What was even more disappointing was the conduct of the management when we subsequently raised the refund issue. Instead of handling a legitimate customer concern professionally, the WhatsApp communication became disrespectful and unnecessarily confrontational in tone. That interaction genuinely made me wonder: if this is how guests are spoken to when they raise a reasonable concern before even staying, how comfortable and safe would we have felt if we had actually stayed there with our family for two days?I completely understand that a heritage property may have limitations and that budget accommodation does not need to be luxurious. But basic hygiene, functional facilities, a reasonably safe environment, transparent booking practices and respectful treatment of guests are fundamental expectations.My advice to potential guests is simple: please do not be influenced by the heritage appearance or photographs alone. Check the surroundings and facilities carefully, and think twice before making any direct advance payment based on assurances from the management. If you are travelling with family or have ladies in the group, I would be particularly cautious.I also believe Booking.com and other accommodation platforms should take a close look at properties where guests are encouraged to cancel platform reservations and book directly, particularly when the subsequent experience involves disputes over advance payments. Such practices undermine the protection and transparency that guests expect from booking platforms.For us, this was a very disappointing experience, and we would not recommend this property to other travellers. There are plenty of alternatives in Pondicherry at comparable prices that appear to offer a much better overall experience.

I had a wonderful time at Esparan Heritage with my friends! The rooms feature a lovely vintage atmosphere, decorated with classic artwork and antique-style furnishings that add a special character. Everything was tidy, cozy, and well kept. The calm environment made our visit even better. I strongly suggest it to anyone seeking a memorable and restful experience!
