Solo Traveller • Sep 2026This was one of the most disappointing travel experiences I've ever had. After spending three days in Pondicherry, I can say the trip fell far short of my expectations. My biggest mistake was choosing this hotel just because of its name and the claimed "3-star" rating. The location was a major issue — the hotel is hidden in a cramped, congested neighborhood, making it very hard to reach by car. The area did not feel like a proper tourist spot at all. The room itself was tiny, cramped, dirty, and poorly kept. The linens and towels were in a shockingly bad state. Calling this a 3-star hotel seems overly generous. Even basic cleanliness and hospitality were lacking. Regarding Pondicherry, after seeing the main sights, I found little that felt truly special or worth visiting. Besides the usual beaches, cafés, and a few tourist places, nothing stood out. The beaches were crowded and not the beautiful coastal destination I had hoped for. If you're planning a trip here, be sure to keep your expectations realistic and research hotels carefully. Don't be misled by fancy names, photos, or self-given star ratings. For me, this was not a relaxing vacation but three days of disappointment, from the hotel to the destination itself. Would I return to Pondicherry? No. Would I recommend it for a holiday? Not based on my experience.
