Very dull hotel unbecoming of a Taj property
The room was pleasant, though the sea view was partially blocked by trees. Perhaps a higher floor would have offered a better view; we were on the 4th floor. Also, only the king bed room had a balcony, not the twin bed room, which was disappointing since both were priced the same. We had separate toilet and bathroom areas, which seemed like a plus at first, but the toilet vent wasn't working, causing unpleasant odors after use. They need to improve the toilet ventilation and increase suction speed. The toilet bowl was quite advanced, with a horizontal flush that used less water and avoided splashing, which was a positive. The bathroom was comfortable for showering. However, they should add a handheld shower with hot and cold controls inside the toilet for cleaning after use, as the current faucet isn't sufficient. I had one of the best sleeps in a while here; the pillow with down-alternative stuffing and memory foam-like support was very comfortable, and I plan to buy one for home. The blanket was similar. Another Taj hotel I stayed at, Taj Cidade de Horizon Goa, had the same pillow and blanket and better sea views, but their thermostat was locked at 25°C, making it freezing in the morning until staff manually blocked vents. So, sleep there was less comfortable than at Vivanta, though the beach experience was better at Horizon. I really enjoyed the breakfast options—very nice and varied. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the hotel arranged a cab with a great driver, Mr. Peter Lius, I believe. Overall, I liked the hotel a lot. The main downside was the bathroom experience: it was inconvenient not to be able to clean up fully in the toilet room and have to move to the bathroom afterward. Also, the smell lingered due to poor ventilation, even after waiting 15 minutes. Other issues like the sea view were minor. The toilet situation is a core problem, and I can only fully recommend this hotel if they fix it. I gave 5 stars because the staff tried their best, but infrastructure issues are beyond their control. Hopefully, management will address this by my next visit.
