Indian Railways Is Providing COVID-19 Care Centres To States As Cases In India Rise

Indian Railways is ready to provide COVID care centres to various states authorities. The transformed train coaches consist of 10 coaches with a patient capacity of 16.

Till now, Indian Railways has modified a total of 5231 coaches as COVID Care centres.

As per guidelines of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), few state governments have requested Indian Railways for these coaches. The national transporter has allocated the same to respective States and UTs.


Uttar Pradesh has finalised 24 stations for deployment, Telangana has asked for the coaches in three locations namely Secunderabad, Kachiguda and Adilabad.

The first of these COVID care centres were set up at Shakur Basti railway station in New Delhi on May 31. It consisted of 10 non-AC coaches with 160 beds. Three additional AC coaches were also deployed for the healthcare staff.

Minister of Railways Piyush Goyal  tweeted, ‘Railways has geared up to provide COVID Care Centers to States across the country.’

Indian Railways is doing a commendable job in providing the states with health and infrastructure to fight coronavirus.
