The Indian Railways has plans to extend Kashmiri artifacts, cuisine, dry fruits and other local products through IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation). This initiative will help in promoting J&K (Jammu and Kashmir) on the rail tourism map.

As told by Suresh Prabhu, “We will create an e-market (e-commerce) through IRCTC where all popular things of Kashmir including its cuisine and handicrafts will be sold. The idea is to popularize J&K on the rail tourism map”. Also, he said that there would be more tourists because of the rail network expansion in the region, and hence more trains will be rolled out to support their travel plans.

The railways is working out the ways to establish a market for products of Kashmir. Also, they have collaborated with a big e-commerce firm to facilitate the same so a range of products can be made available to consumers as per their requirements. All products will be available on Amazon. As told by a senior official,The IRCTC website will provide a link to the company’s website where customers can order desired products. However, products will not be sold directly by the IRCTC”.

It is learnt that the partner will responsible for managing the entire e-commerce pattern, right from bringing in selected items and payments to complaint management, handling, returns and orders.
