Here’s all you need to know about the Tatkal feature of the Indian Railways:

  • Introduced in 1997, the Tatkal ticket booking opens a day before the train’s origination date.
  • The booking for AC classes starts at 10 AM and for non-AC classes at 11 AM
  • Under each Tatkal PNR, a maximum of four passengers can be booked.
  • Passengers are not allowed to change their names in Tatkal bookings.
  • Ticket Deposit Receipts (TDRs) are not issued for Waitlisted Tatkal tickets.
  • Passengers can get a refund for their Tatkal tickets only under exceptional circumstances. One of these is when the train is diverted to a different route and the ticket holder is not willing to travel on the same.
  • A refund is also allowed if the diverted route does not include the passenger’s boarding station or destination station or both.
