Railway Cleanliness Drive: Dirty Linen to be Replaced by Khadi Bed Kits

Do you travel in AC sleeper class often and dread using those pillows and bedsheets offered to you? If yes, then this new scheme by railways will make you happy. On your next train booking, you could be given a choice to take a new bed kit, comprising a towel, single sheet, double sheet and a pillow cover at a nominal price of Rs.250 per kit. Once purchased, you can also take this kit home after the journey. As per the officials, the kits will be delivered to buyers before the journey begins.

Indian Railways is planning to source these pure cotton bed kits from Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC). Two railway officials confirmed that the idea is being examined by the senior authorities and will be in its final stage by the end of 2017. Piyush Goyal, Minister of Railways, mooted the idea of bed kits and sourcing them from KVIC.

 

Railways will continue to provide blankets and pillows to all travellers, irrespective of whether they opt for the takeaway kit or not.
