Skip Airport Queues Like a Pro With This Little-Known Hack

Long immigration queues can easily add 30–90 minutes to your airport journey. But India now has a little-known system that lets approved travellers walk through automated e-gates in seconds.

It’s called the Fast Track Immigration – Trusted Traveller Programme (FTI-TTP). Once enrolled, you can clear immigration in as little as 30 seconds.

Here’s everything you need to know.

What Is the FTI-TTP?

FTI-TTP is a biometric-based immigration clearance system launched by the Government of India to allow pre-verified passengers to skip manual immigration counters.

Instead of standing in queues, travellers can:

-Scan their passport
-Scan their boarding pass
-Authenticate biometrics
-Walk through automated e-gates

The programme is implemented by the Bureau of Immigration (BoI) under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

How the System Works

Once you’re approved, your profile is added to a secure Trusted Traveller whitelist used by immigration e-gates.

At the airport:

  1. Scan your boarding pass
  2. Scan your passport
  3. Verify biometrics
  4. Exit through the e-gate

No officer interaction is required in most cases.

Step-by-Step Registration Process

Applying takes only a few minutes online:

Step 1: Register on the official FTI-TTP portal
Step 2: Upload passport details and documents
Step 3: Complete biometric capture (at FRRO or airport)
Step 4: Background verification
Step 5: Approval and whitelist activation

After approval, you can start using e-gates immediately at supported airports.

Who Can Apply?

Currently eligible travellers include:

  • Indian passport holders
  • OCI cardholders (phased rollout)
  • Frequent international travellers
  • Low-risk passengers cleared through security checks

The government intends to gradually expand eligibility further.

Airports Where FTI-TTP Is Available

The programme launched first at major metro airports including: Delhi (Terminal 3), Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kochi and Ahmedabad

It has since expanded to additional airports such as: Amritsar, Lucknow, Kozhikode, Trichy and Thiruvananthapuram. More airports are expected to join soon.

Why Frequent Flyers Should Apply

If you travel internationally even a few times per year, FTI-TTP offers:

-Immigration clearance in seconds
-No queues after long flights
-Reduced airport stress during peak travel seasons
-Secure biometric identity verification
-Faster global-standard airport experience

For business travellers especially, the time savings add up quickly.
