Two Months of Vande Bharat Mission: More than 5 Lakh Citizens Return Safely

Vande Bharat Mission, the largest evacuation exercise of its kind, was started on May 6 to help Indians stranded abroad reach their homes via international repatriation flight amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Recently, the Union Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri announced that the Mission completed two successful months on July 6.

The repatriation flights are being operated under the Mission by the national carrier Air India as well as private carriers including GoAir, IndiGo, SpiceJet and Vistara.


The Mission has successfully brought more than 553K citizens home from 137 countries through these special flights, naval ships and land border crossings.

As many as 1.3 Lakh Indians were repatriated via 700 flights under Phase 4 of the Mission, which began on July 3.

It may be noted that 36 flights between the United States and India are being operated from 11-19 July under the fourth phase of the Vande Bharat Mission.

Along with the US, Phase 4 of the Mission is connecting India with Canada, UK, Kyrgyzstan, Saudi Arabia, Russia and Australia.
