My room was on ground floor Room no. * and had drainage smell throughout the stay. Staff couldn’t help as it was fully booked. Management should have blocked this room and did the cleaning work to eradicate the smell.

My stay at this property was fantastic. The atmosphere was wonderful and beautifully captured the essence of an old French-style home, creating a unique and memorable experience. The rooms were tidy, cozy, and full of charm. A major plus was the location—it's very near all the key tourist spots, allowing easy exploration of Pondicherry without long travel times. Overall, I had an excellent experience and would certainly suggest this place to anyone seeking a tranquil stay with genuine French heritage ambiance in central Pondicherry.

I stayed for two nights at Villa des Gouverneurs, but the experience was disappointing and did not meet my expectations. We were first given Room 2, which had visible mold, raising concerns about cleanliness and health, so we asked to change rooms. However, the other rooms also had problems: Rooms 1 and 3 had maintenance issues, and Room 4, while better, was very small with a mezzanine accessed by an awkward and possibly unsafe staircase. Breakfast was also unsatisfactory, with a limited menu and the kitchen on the ground floor while the dining area was upstairs, reached by a narrow, shaky iron staircase. It was worrying that housekeeping staff were also managing kitchen and food service duties. Communication was difficult since most staff only spoke the local language and not English or Hindi, making it hard to express concerns or get help. The location near the temple and lake was the only real positive. When we reported issues through Agoda, we were told to deal with the hotel management directly, but the manager was unavailable and refused phone contact. Instead of addressing our concerns, the response was dismissive, denying the mold problem and insisting that foreigners also stay there. There was no real effort to resolve the problems. Despite the property's heritage charm and great location, poor upkeep, hygiene issues, communication barriers, and poor customer service spoiled our stay.

My recent stay at Hotel Villa des Gouverneurs in Pondicherry was quite disappointing. Problems began at check-in when I found out that the Family Suite with Balcony I had booked was given to someone else due to overbooking. Traveling with a 6-month-old baby and after a long trip, we had no choice but to accept a ground floor room, which was not the category we paid for despite staff assurances. For a price of around ₹12,634 per night, I expected better upkeep. The room showed dampness and seepage on the walls, which is unusual even for heritage properties I've stayed in. The bathroom plumbing was poor, with water taking several minutes to drain after a shower. While the exterior is beautiful, the interiors do not live up to the photos on booking sites. The complimentary breakfast was very limited, with only one fruit and juice option, offering little choice for guests with dietary needs. Though listed as a 3-star hotel, it did not meet basic standards of that rating. The only positive was the great location, but overall the stay was not worth the cost. Pros: great location and attractive exterior. Cons: overbooking, poor room condition, damp walls, drainage problems, misleading room info, and limited breakfast.
