The Mudhouse Marayoor

My stay at Mud House, Marayoor was quite disappointing. I feel it is overrated and seems to have built its reputation more through advertising than the actual quality of its services. Given the price, the facilities and overall experience did not justify the cost. Room service was lacking, communication from management was poor, and several basic amenities were missing. Guests had to fetch drinking water themselves from the canteen, which was located far away. I suggest the management and staff improve the quality of facilities and customer service to better match the price paid by guests. This is sincere feedback from someone who expected a much better experience. To other travelers, I advise doing thorough research before selecting this place for your staycation.

Mudhouse Marayoor claims to embrace minimalism but seems to have removed nearly all essentials under the guise of simplicity and aesthetics. There's no room service, no phone to contact reception, and even basic items like a toothbrush are absent, supposedly to maintain a "minimalist experience." The complimentary tea and snacks were a highlight, though the reception failed to mention that taking extra snacks could quietly increase your bill—a little warning would have been appreciated. The food menu was overpriced with very few choices, seemingly sticking to the resort's "keep it simple" theme. The reality didn't match the picturesque Instagram posts; instead, there were broken, unstable stairs making every step challenging, subpar facilities, and prices that felt more suited to a luxury hotel. When asked about the lack of amenities, the response was always about valuing simplicity. While simplicity can be peaceful, here it felt more like an inconvenience. If paying high prices for fewer services is their idea of simplicity, they've certainly perfected it. Think carefully before booking and consider spending your money somewhere that offers both style and basic comforts.

The room lacked a phone to reach the kitchen or hotel staff, there was no food room service, and even drinking water had to be picked up from the kitchen rather than delivered to the room. These are basic services that most hotels in this price category offer. The only positive aspect was the culinary team, who earned the single star rating. Don't rely just on Instagram reels before booking; always verify by reading genuine reviews and confirming the available facilities before spending your money.

I wouldn't recommend this resort unless they improve their service and pricing significantly. A tip for future guests: bring your own toothbrush and toothpaste, as these seem to be considered luxury items here. You're paying premium prices but missing even basic essentials. No in-room service, overpriced and limited food options, average hospitality, and no clear info on services. At this rate, I wouldn't be shocked if guests have to bring their own towels next. The resort charges like a luxury place but the experience is far from it. Save your money or lower your expectations.

This place feels like a storybook setting, resembling a hobbit village with vegetable gardens, butterflies, and birds fluttering through a magical landscape. The cottages, made of bamboo, thatch, and mud, blend seamlessly with the natural environment. At every turn, you find charming touches—rustic garden decorations creatively made from found objects. You can enjoy a great night's sleep in these cottages without needing AC or fans, as the design naturally keeps the temperature comfortable. Ambili, the manager, stayed in contact throughout our visit and made sure our vegan dietary requirements were accommodated. The entire staff cared for us with genuine kindness. Ambili also arranged for an excellent guide, Prince RajaDurai, who led us on a birdwatching trip in the Chinnar wildlife sanctuary (highly recommended). We spotted 40 bird species, learned about local plants, foraged prickly pears, and saw nilgiri langoors, grey tufted langoors, grizzly giant squirrels, and more.
