I recently stayed at River View Retreat Resort, and unfortunately, the overall experience was quite disappointing.The only real positive of this property is its direct access to the river. The riverside location is beautiful, but beyond that, there was very little about the resort that I found worth appreciating.The property feels very old, dated and poorly maintained. The rooms are in need of renovation and had noticeable dampness and moisture on the walls, which made the overall stay uncomfortable.We stayed in a duplex that is offered for four people, but the space is simply not practical for that occupancy. Most importantly, there is only one washroom for four people. Whether they are four adults or a family travelling with children, one washroom is highly inconvenient. With four people needing to use the washroom throughout the day and while getting ready, this arrangement simply does not make sense for accommodation being sold for four guests.The food menu was also extremely limited, with very few options to choose from. For a resort where guests are expected to spend a significant amount of time on the property, much better variety should be available.Dinner and dessert were literally below average. There was also almost nothing in terms of entertainment or activities. Every day it was basically Tambola and nothing beyond that. No interesting recreational activities, no folk dance, no cultural programme and nothing that really gives you the feeling of being on a resort holiday.What makes all of this more disappointing is the pricing. The property is quite expensive for what it actually offers. When a resort charges a premium price, guests naturally expect better rooms, maintenance, food choices, facilities, activities and overall hospitality. Here, unfortunately, the price simply does not match the experience or the facilities provided.In my experience, you are essentially paying for the river access, while the rest of the property has very little to offer in return.I personally would not recommend River View Retreat Resort, especially at its current pricing, unless your only priority is having direct access to the river and you are prepared for an old and ageing property, limited food choices, minimal activities and basic accommodation facilities.A beautiful riverfront location alone is not enough to justify a premium resort price.
