White House Group Of Houseboats

My stay on this houseboat was excellent. The owner and staff were very kind. I appreciated the houseboat for its safety and comfort. The view from the houseboat was stunning and unobstructed. They also have a beautiful shikara boat. Many thanks to Mr. Ibrahim and Taffazul Farooq for all their help. If I return to Kashmir, I would gladly stay here again.

This review will be both detailed and an apology. To start, the owner Mr. Ibrahim and staff member Taffazul Farooq were very warm and kind. The owner was very engaging, humble, and treated us like family. Regarding the rooms: this houseboat offers the best uninterrupted view of Dal Lake (across from Ghat No 12). The rooms and washrooms were very clean and hygienic overall. The prices are fair and justified for such a view. We enjoyed beautiful sunrises and sunsets. They provided transportation to and from our stay as many times as needed. The breakfast served was also good. A small example of the owner's kindness: we took a day trip to Sonmarg and had to leave early, missing the complimentary breakfast, but upon return he arranged tea and toast for us. We stayed two nights. On checkout day, I misunderstood them about some misplaced valuables. The owner kindly told me not to pay the remaining amount. Though we wanted to pay, he refused. After reaching home, I found my belongings and felt deeply sorry that someone had to face trouble because of me. I immediately called the owner to apologize and sent the remaining payment. I regret this very much and hope for forgiveness. If I visit Kashmir again, I will definitely meet Ibrahim uncle and Farooq bhaiya in person. Highly recommended! (Photos and videos attached)

Had a wonderful time at White House Houseboat. Ibrahim, the owner, was a fantastic host. Enjoyed a lovely evening Shikara ride with Imran. The location is convenient. Only minor issue was the room size. Everything else was great.

Ibrahim’s White House offered a very clean and cozy stay. Situated on a corner, it provides wonderful views and good airflow. Ibrahim and Imran were very helpful and suggested great places to eat. I would definitely recommend it 10/10. Payment and parking options are available just a 2-minute walk away at a fair price. They also have their own shikara, so you can get a good deal on rides.

The property and location are nice, and one of the rooms we got was also decent. But the biggest issue with this stay was the owner’s behaviour, which felt dishonest, pushy, and very unprofessional throughout our experience.We had booked two rooms for two people, expecting both rooms to be of the same type/category as shown in the listing. But when we reached, one room matched the photos, while the second room was very small and completely different. This immediately felt misleading.Since the bigger room was enough for both of us, we told the owner that we would not use the second room. He said that if he rented it to someone else, he would split the amount 50-50 with us. Later, he gave that room to another couple and told us he rented it for 2,000, so he gave us only 1,000. But when we checked with the couple, they said they had paid 4,000. This was the biggest red flag for us because the 50-50 arrangement was suggested by the owner himself, and even then he did not follow it honestly.During the stay, he also kept pushing us again and again to book trips and transport through him, even after we clearly said no. The prices he quoted were much higher than local options, which made the whole thing feel even more untrustworthy.One incident was especially uncomfortable. The owner entered our room without knocking, ringing the bell, or asking for permission. I was staying with a female companion, so this felt like a serious privacy and safety concern.Breakfast was also very basic and disappointing. And at checkout, he pressured me to write a 5-star Google review in front of him, which felt forced and unfair.Overall, the property may look good and the location may be nice, but the experience was ruined by the owner’s dishonest behaviour, repeated upselling, inflated pricing, privacy concerns, and forced review request. I would not recommend this stay.
