According to Indian Railways, this third railway line between Prayagraj and Mughalsarai will ease traffic congestion on the busy Delhi-Howrah route. At present, the number of passenger and goods trains that run in this section exceed its capacity.

Project details:

The 150 km long third railway line between Allahabad and Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Jn. will be built at an estimated cost of Rs. 2649.44 crore. The Construction Organisation of North Central will execute the project.

The project is scheduled to end by 2023-24. It is also said to generate direct employment during construction for around 36 lakh people.

Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said, “The existing lines between Allahabad Junction railway station and PT. Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction have been witnessing overload. The move is to decongest the route. A Dedicated Freight Corridor will also be opened.”
