India’s COVID-19 caseload is showing no signs of slowing down. As a result, several domestic and international destinations have issued firm safety guidelines to curb the spread of the virus. Punjab, Kerala and Telangana have declared a night curfew, Uttar Pradesh has announced a weekend curfew, while Meghalaya will be stopping the entry of all out-of-state tourists.

Uttar Pradesh to start ‘corona curfew’
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced a weekend ‘corona curfew’ for Uttar Pradesh. The night curfew timings will be from 8 pm to 7 am, starting from the night of April 23 (Friday). However, districts having an active virus caseload of over 500 will have night curfew restrictions in place every day of the week, with an exemption only for essential services.
Punjab tightens travel rules, imposes curfew
In a series of tweets, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh detailed Punjab’s new COVID-safety guidelines. Night curfew has been imposed across the state from 8 pm to 5 am. Passengers flying into Punjab must carry a negative RT-PCR test report, and all gatherings with more than 10 people need prior permission.
Gatherings over 20, including weddings and funerals, are banned. Anyone attending large gatherings must undergo a five-day home quarantine.

Meghalaya suspends tourist entry into state
No tourists from outside Meghalaya will be allowed to enter the state from April 23 to May 7, 2021. However, local tourism will continue. All incoming visitors must have a negative RT-PCR test report, but their validity has now been reduced from 72 hours to 48 hours before travel. Chief Minister Conrad Sangma also added that any tourist locations experiencing high footfall will be closed.
Kerala, Telangana to begin night curfew from today
Yesterday, we shared news of Kerala’s new domestic travel guidelines. With over 20 lakh active cases, the state has also issued a night curfew on top of these measures. All non-essential activities, movement and gatherings between 9 pm and 5 am will be restricted starting today, April 20. Essential services and public transport are exempted from curfew restrictions. The curfew will last for two weeks.

Telangana has also issued a night curfew order that will take effect from tonight. Its timings are from 9 pm to 5 am, and the curfew will end on the morning of May 1. Public transport like taxis and autos will be operational.

UK adds India to travel ‘red list’
The red list refers to all countries facing a travel ban to the United Kingdom.
Starting from 4 am on April 23, Indian nationals can no longer travel to the UK. Only British, Irish and third-country nationals with UK residence rights will be allowed entry, after which they must undergo 10 days of mandatory hotel quarantine.
Indian nationals arriving before this deadline will have to self-isolate for 10 days at their place of residence, and take a COVID test on their second and eighth day in the UK.
New testing rules for India–Dubai flights
Effective April 22 at 12.01 am, anyone flying from India to Dubai must hold a valid COVID-19 negative test certificate issued within 48 hours from the time of sample collection. Flyers must ensure that the time of sample collection and of reporting is displayed accurately. The certificate must be in Arabic or English, and be taken from a certified lab from the passenger’s point of origin. If the certificate is a copy, it must mandatorily have a QR code linking it to the original report.
Hong Kong suspends flights from India
Starting from midnight on April 20, all passenger flights from India, Pakistan and the Philippines have been prohibited from landing in Hong Kong for 14 days. All three countries have been marked as ‘extremely high-risk’. The suspension was invoked after multiple passengers from these locations tested positive upon their arrival in Hong Kong.
