Airport Updates: Srinagar restarts flights today, Tripura gets Northeast’s 3rd international airport

Daytime temperatures in Srinagar have hovered in single digits in the past week, while the mercury dropped below 0 degrees at night resulting in snowfall. As a result, flight operations have been severely affected. Northeast India, has faced an aviation resource crunch, with only two international airports servicing its seven states. But the Airports Authority of India now has good news for both these roadblocks. Apart from this, Sindhudurg airport too will start operations soon.

Srinagar airport resumes flights after heavy snowfall

Four days after stopping flight services due to heavy snowfall, Srinagar’s Sheikh Ul-Alam International Airport has resumed commercial operations. The Airports Authority of India shared on Twitter that flights had been cancelled from January 3, but specialised machinery was now being used for snow removal from the airport aprons.

The apron is the part of the airport where aircrafts are parked, loaded, boarded or refilled. Passengers cannot board flights without clear access to it.

Airport officials have advised all passengers flying out of Srinagar to check their flight status frequently and arrive early to avoid peak-hour rush.
