The decision was made on September 5th, 2019 in AAI’s board meeting, after which, the recommendation was sent to the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

The AAI works under the Ministry of Civil Aviation and owns and manages over 100 airports across India. Earlier this year, it was reported that the AAI is planning to privatise 20-25 more airports in the next phase.

The central government has already privatised airports in Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Mangaluru, Thiruvananthapuram, and Guwahati for operation, management and development through a public-private partnership (PPP) model.
