Bikaner Airport, officially recognized as Civil Enclave Bikaner or Nal Airport, is situated within the Nal Air Force Station in the Bikaner district of Rajasthan. The dedicated civil terminal was inaugurated in June 2014 to facilitate regional connectivity, though it did not replace an existing facility but rather established a commercial presence at a long-standing military base. As a regional facility primarily serving domestic routes, the airport does not currently feature in global traffic rankings; however, according to Airports Authority of India data for the 2023-2024 fiscal year, it remains a smaller-tier domestic airport within India’s aviation network. Key milestones in its development include the commencement of regular commercial operations in 2017 under the government’s Regional Connectivity Scheme, UDAN, and the subsequent introduction of daily flight services by carriers such as Alliance Air and IndiGo connecting the city to major hubs like Delhi. The terminal infrastructure was designed to accommodate approximately 100 passengers during peak hours, representing a significant step in making the remote Thar Desert region accessible by air. Bikaner serves as a critical heritage and tourism hub, famous for its 16th-century Junagarh Fort and as a gateway to the Great Indian Desert.
