Noida International Airport, officially known by its IATA code DXN and commonly referred to as Jewar Airport after the local township in Uttar Pradesh, is a greenfield project that has retained its geographical naming since the proposal stage. The airport is scheduled to commence commercial operations in late 2024 or early 2025, serving as a critical alternative to Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport rather than a direct replacement for any existing site. Because the facility is currently under construction, it does not yet appear in national or global passenger traffic rankings; however, it is designed to eventually become India’s largest aviation hub upon the completion of all development phases. Key milestones in its development include the laying of the foundation stone in November 2021 and its landmark achievement of being designed as the country’s first net-zero emissions airport. The initial phase is built to accommodate 12 million passengers annually, with future expansions planned to reach a 70-million-passenger capacity across multiple terminals. As a vital infrastructure project for the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority area, the airport supports Noida’s role as a major IT and electronics manufacturing hub. Furthermore, it acts as a strategic gateway to the heritage and religious tourism circuits of Agra and Mathura, providing essential logistics and transit support for the industrial corridors of Western Uttar Pradesh.
