Rewa Airport, officially known by its geographic designation and situated in the Chorhata area of Madhya Pradesh, serves as a crucial aviation link for the Vindhya region. Originally a state-owned airstrip, the facility was extensively redeveloped and formally inaugurated as a commercial airport by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 20, 2024. It did not replace an existing airport but rather upgraded a long-standing landing strip to facilitate the city’s first scheduled commercial flights. As a newly operational facility, it does not currently hold a national or global ranking for passenger traffic, though it stands as the sixth commercial airport in the state. Significant milestones in its development include its integration into the Regional Connectivity Scheme, or UDAN, and the construction of a modern passenger terminal capable of accommodating 200 travelers during peak hours. Furthermore, the project involved strengthening and extending the runway to 1,800 meters, enabling the operation of ATR-72 type aircraft. As a key administrative and industrial hub, Rewa is famously recognized as the Land of White Tigers and serves as a major center for the limestone and cement industries. The airport bolsters this regional role by providing efficient connectivity for business professionals and enhancing tourism to local landmarks such as the Mukundpur White Tiger Safari and various heritage sites, thereby integrating Rewa more closely with the national economic landscape.
