Adampur Airport, officially designated as the Civil Enclave at Air Force Station Adampur, is named after the town of Adampur in the Jalandhar district of Punjab. The civil enclave was inaugurated on September 22, 2017, to provide regional connectivity to the Doaba region and did not replace a prior facility. As a regional airport operating under the UDAN scheme, it does not currently hold a global ranking, and its national passenger traffic ranking remains within the lower tier of domestic airports due to its specialized regional focus and periods of limited commercial operations. Significant milestones include the launch of its first commercial flight to Delhi in May 2018 and the inauguration of a new terminal building in March 2024, which expanded the facility's capacity to handle 300 peak-hour passengers. The airport serves as a critical transport link for the nearby city of Jalandhar, which functions as a major industrial hub for sports equipment and hand tools, as well as a central point for the global Punjabi diaspora. By offering a local alternative to the international airports in Amritsar and Chandigarh, Adampur Airport facilitates more efficient travel for the region’s significant Non-Resident Indian population and supports the local manufacturing economy through improved business accessibility for domestic stakeholders.
