Bareilly Airport, officially known as Bareilly Airport, operates as a civil enclave within the Trishul Air Base of the Indian Air Force. It has not undergone any formal renaming since its inception as a commercial facility. The civil enclave was inaugurated on March 8, 2021, marking the commencement of commercial flight operations in the region; it did not replace an existing facility but rather introduced scheduled air connectivity to a city previously served only by military and private charters. In terms of passenger traffic, the airport is classified among India’s smaller regional airports under the UDAN scheme and does not currently feature in global rankings or the top tier of national traffic statistics, though it has seen steady growth since its opening. Key milestones include the completion of its dedicated passenger terminal in 2021, which was designed to handle 150 passengers during peak hours, and the subsequent expansion of flight routes to major metros like Mumbai and Bangalore by carriers such as IndiGo. The airport features a 4,111-meter runway, one of the longest in the country, shared with the air force base. Bareilly serves as a significant industrial hub known for its furniture manufacturing and Zari-Zardosi embroidery, while also acting as a gateway to the Kumaon Himalayan region and the Nath Nagri temple circuit.
