Couple • India • May 2026I am deeply disappointed to write this, as I have been a loyal, regular customer of Makkiyil Residency (Kaloor, Kochi) for the last 1.5 years, literally since their opening day. The management can easily verify my loyalty through my email records. Up until recently, the customer service was great, and the previous receptionists were highly accommodating. Whenever I needed a short extension of 3 to 5 hours, they either did not charge me out of courtesy for a regular guest or charged a nominal fee of 200.However, my stay yesterday was an absolute nightmare due to a scam and corrupt behavior by the current receptionist.I requested a short 3-hour extension. The receptionist went to "discuss with the manager" and returned claiming the manager demanded ***, but that he could "help me out" and do it for ***. The massive red flag and outright fraud happened next: instead of letting me pay via the official Makkiyil Residency GPay QR code, the receptionist strictly insisted that I transfer the ***directly to his personal mobile number.This is a blatant pocketing scam. The staff is using the hotel's name to extort money from guests and hide it from management.It is incredibly sad to see a good establishment ruined by untrustworthy staff. To anyone planning a stay at this hotel in Kaloor, Kochi, please be extremely aware of this fraud receptionist and their payment scams. Never pay into personal accounts.
