Railways Converts Old Train Coaches into India’s First ‘Restaurant on Wheels’

Good news for passengers! The Indian Railways has converted two train coaches into India’s first ‘Restaurant on Wheels’ at the Asansol railway station in West Bengal. It is open to both railway passengers as well as the general public.

The Restaurant On Wheels’ has been developed by renovating two old suburban MEMU coaches.

While one renovated coach will be serving passengers tea and snacks, the other coach will be a full-fledged, 42-seater restaurant that will serve the general public breakfast, lunch as well as dinner.

While the coach serving tea is called ‘Chai Chun’, the restaurant is called ‘Wow Bhojan’.


The initiative is expected to generate about Rs.50 lakh as non-fare revenue in the next 5 years.
