Plug Type and Travel Adapter Guide for Brazil

Plug types used in Brazil

Brazil uses a single plug type: Type N. This plug type is not used in India, so your Indian plug will not fit.

Do I Need a Voltage Converter in Brazil?

Brazil has a mixed power supply. Some regions and older buildings run on 127V, while newer infrastructure uses 220V, both at 60 Hz. This means you cannot assume a single voltage; always check the label inside your hotel room before plugging in a single-voltage Indian appliance like a hair dryer or immersion rod. Dual-voltage devices (phones, laptops) work safely on either supply.

Will my Indian charger work in Brazil?

Your charger will work, but only with a plug adapter. Brazil uses Type N sockets at 220V/60Hz. Your Indian phone and laptop chargers are dual-voltage (the label reads 100–240V), so they handle Brazil voltage without any issue. The only question is plug shape — your Indian plug will not fit Type N sockets at all, so you must carry a travel adapter. You do not need a voltage converter — Brazil's 220V is the same as India's 230V.
