Manohar International Airport, Goa

Officially known as Manohar International Airport, the facility is named in honor of the late Manohar Parrikar, a former Chief Minister of Goa and Indian Defence Minister. Originally developed as Mopa International Airport, it was officially renamed in January 2023 shortly after its inauguration. The airport commenced commercial operations on January 5, 2023, serving as a greenfield facility designed to supplement the existing Dabolim Airport under a dual-airport model. In the 2023-2024 fiscal year, the airport handled approximately 4.4 million passengers, ranking it within the top twenty busiest airports in India by passenger traffic. Notable milestones include the successful completion of Phase 1 infrastructure, which features a 3.5-kilometer runway capable of handling wide-body aircraft, and the integration of sustainable technologies such as a 5-megawatt solar power plant and zero-liquid discharge systems. The airport has also earned the Best Infrastructure Award at the 2023 ASSOCHAM 14th International Conference. As a vital gateway to North Goa, the airport supports the region’s role as a global tourism hub and heritage destination. By providing direct access to the state’s northern beach belt and burgeoning commercial districts, the facility reduces transit times for international travelers and bolsters the local hospitality industry, effectively bridging the gap between Goa’s traditional coastal appeal and its modern infrastructure needs.
