Chicago Group of Houseboats

Our stay at Chicago Houseboat was truly outstanding. From arrival, every aspect was managed with kindness, professionalism, and sincere hospitality. The staff were very polite, attentive, and always ready to help with a friendly attitude, making us feel genuinely welcome throughout our visit. The Shikara transfers between the Boulevard and the houseboat were seamless, comfortable, and well-coordinated, adding a special touch to the experience. The houseboat itself combines comfort, peace, and authentic Kashmiri hospitality beautifully. Waking up to the peaceful views of Dal Lake was an unforgettable experience. This was definitely one of the best experiences on Dal Lake.

I have stayed twice at Chicago group of houseboats, and both visits were pleasant and satisfying. The rooms are air-conditioned with power backup, hot water geysers, and clean rooms and bathrooms. The dining hall and sitting area are lovely, with views of the sunrise and sunset from the common balcony at the front of the boathouse. The beds and mattresses are comfortable. There are 2-3 houseboats connected, each with about 3 rooms, making it ideal for large groups. The staff who served us in 2021 were also there in 2026, attending to all our needs. If you stay here, it's best to book breakfast and dinner since frequent trips to the main road can be limited. Each houseboat offers complimentary in-house shikhara boat service for pick-up and drop-off between the Dal Lake designated gate and the boathouse. At Chicago boathouse, both breakfast and dinner were good. We requested breakfast at 7:15 am as we left by 8 am for day trips. For travel, itinerary, or transportation advice, you can contact the owner. Pro tip: Avoid rooms facing the main road as they lack great views, have traffic noise, and the water there has a lot of garbage. They managed everything far better than we could have on our own and were extremely welcoming and friendly. They directed us to excellent artisans to visit, quickly arranged all our requests, and offered the best advice on restaurants and onward travel. The meals they prepared were amazing, and we always ate more than enough. The property is located away from the city, offering stunning mountain views, and we heard no traffic noise throughout our stay. A wonderful bonus is that all boats are non-motorized, keeping the lake free from plastic and waste. We swam right from the houseboat on a beautiful day and spent hours relaxing in the afternoon, watching the lake at sunset. Honestly, this was our best stay in India across all our trips. We definitely plan to return to Srinagar and know exactly where we'll book next time.
