Solo Traveller • Sep 2026I stayed at Grand Continent Udaipur and chose to have breakfast and lunch there. Sadly, my overall stay was disappointing, especially given that the hotel is marketed as a 5-star property. The breakfast offered many options, but variety did not equate to quality. The South Indian dishes were poor; the dal was too watery, the poha was cold and bland, and the tea tasted mostly like hot sugar water with very little tea flavor. I also tried lunch at the hotel, but the food quality was underwhelming and did not match the price. The lunch menu was supposedly the chef's choice, but my experience was unsatisfactory. I ordered Paneer Tikka as a starter, and the main course was Kadai Paneer, which was basically the same dish without proper gravy. This showed a lack of thoughtful food planning. There was no buffet available on any day during my stay. Considering the pricing and 5-star status, I expected much better food quality and dining options. The rooms were quite small for a hotel of this category. The biggest issue was the toilet door, which did not close properly, causing a serious privacy concern. I reported this to management, and the General Manager said a technician was called to fix it during my stay. However, dealing with a faulty toilet door at a 5-star hotel is unacceptable. The swimming pool on the terrace was a nice idea, but there was no staff to provide towels. Basic pool services should be available at this level of hotel. Another problem was that my steel water bottle went missing from my room after housekeeping. This is worrying since guests should trust their belongings are safe. Overall, the property did not provide a 5-star experience in terms of food quality, room standards, service, privacy, and guest facilities. I regret spending money on the lunch package and would not recommend Grand Continent Udaipur as a 5-star hotel. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and improves food quality, housekeeping, room maintenance, and guest services.
