Solo Traveller • Jul 2026To the best of my knowledge, a lodge or hotel is entitled to charge 9% CGST and 9% SGST (18% GST) on food services only if it qualifies as a "specified premises", typically where the tariff of any accommodation unit is 7,500 or more per day. Otherwise, food services are ordinarily taxable at 5% GST. In these circumstances, the levy of 18% GST (9% CGST and 9% SGST) on every food item at this establishment appears inconsistent and has raised doubts in my mind regarding its correctness.
