SoultoSoul Guesthouse Mayapur

I stayed at Soul to Soul Guest House in Mayapur during the off-season in the first week of August (their peak season is from November to March). Unfortunately, my experience was not good. During the off-season, their in-house restaurant usually doesn't serve regular meals. If you ask for food, they prepare a simple vegetarian thali with rice, dal, beguni (fried brinjal), Kerala fry, mixed vegetable curry, soya chunks with potato, parwal in mustard gravy, curd, papad, and some cucumber slices. The food tasted fine until I found an insect in the mixed vegetable curry. What upset me more was the staff's reaction. Instead of apologizing, they said it was "common" and claimed that everyone unknowingly cooks some insects in homemade vegetable curry. I found this response very unprofessional and unacceptable. The property description is misleading too. It says it is just 3 minutes from the ghat, but it is actually in a quite isolated area. There are hardly any proper restaurants nearby, and getting a toto can be difficult if you are unlucky. After dark, the road is poorly lit, surrounded by trees, and walking even about a kilometer feels unsafe. Considering the amenities and service, I felt the property was overpriced. They don't provide even basic toiletries. When I asked for a toothbrush and toothpaste, I was simply told they don't provide them. Cleanliness was another big issue. The room was dusty, there was a bad smell when I first entered, and the bathroom had several spiders. I also saw insects crawling around different parts of the property, which suggests maintenance and housekeeping are neglected during the off-season. Another surprising thing was the room layout. This is the first time I have seen a room advertised for three guests where the third bed is literally a bunk above the bathroom. I honestly couldn't believe someone was expected to sleep right over the washroom. It felt like a very poorly planned setup. The only thing I liked was the large window and the beautiful greenery outside, which made the room feel peaceful. From talking with the staff, I got the impression that because it is the off-season, the property isn't maintained properly. But that raises a simple question: if you can't maintain the property and provide a good experience, why keep accepting bookings? Lastly, I would advise future travelers not to rely only on paid vloggers or overly positive sponsored reviews. My actual experience was very different from what I saw online. Overall, my stay was disappointing, and I hope the management takes guest feedback seriously and improves cleanliness, maintenance, transparency, and customer service before welcoming more guests.

The rooms are spacious and calming, featuring large double-height windows. Surrounded by nature, the setting is very peaceful. The only suggestion is that having a cupboard in the room would be beneficial.

The check-in time is really inconvenient... I'm thinking of not staying there because of it.
