Dera Mandawa Hotel

Amazing cooking time with Mr. Durgha Singh! This lovely Haveli in old Jaipur is where Mr. Singh's family has lived for ages, with many in important roles during the Maharajas and British Raj. Durgha welcomed us and shared his family's history while explaining our cooking night. We focused on simple Indian country dishes, cooked traditionally over a campfire. We started with a gin and tonic while Durgha talked about the Rajistani people's ways, like reducing waste and using simple materials. Then we went to the local market with him to get fresh ingredients. Durgha is a great host, wise and funny, well-liked by the market vendors. He showed us around, explaining herbs, fruits, and street snacks. After returning to the Haveli, we enjoyed another drink while learning to make bread and chicken in coconuts. We also watched a puppet show, and Durgha shared its history. Finally, we cooked our dishes under the stars in the courtyard, enjoying our meal while Durgha kept us entertained. It was a fantastic evening, a true glimpse into India's rich culture. Don't miss it!

A lovely place to stay in Jaipur! My husband, daughter and I had two rooms with a shared verandah facing the central courtyard. Both rooms were spacious and bright. I usually sleep lightly but had no noise issues at all, which is rare for me in India. | We felt very welcomed. I loved Mr. Singh’s peacock cushions, and he even helped us find some to take back to London. The staff were very attentive, and the children of one staff member taught my daughter some traditional Indian games. It got pretty competitive - India won the best of three. | Staying here is quite an experience - this is one of five hotels we booked for our trip to India, and it’s our favorite so far. Not many places allow you to discuss comparative religions over breakfast with the owner. It was a real pleasure to be here, and we would love to come back.

I feel lucky to have had great adventures and stayed in amazing places. Dera Mandawa is one of the best. From the greeting, we felt special and our rooms were stunning. Haven't explored Jaipur yet, but if it's half as good as this place, it will be very special.

Amazing building with extraordinary room - big, stunning decor, two floors and a big comfy bed. Courtyard is lovely with birds and location is excellent just outside city gates. Staff and owner are great. Only downside is limited menu and food not great, more expensive than similar hotels.

We spent 3 nights at Dera Mandawa during our India tour. The hosts were super welcoming and explained everything well. Room number 1 was huge! Very spacious and clean. We dined at the hotel twice and the food was amazing. The staff really goes out of their way to make you feel at home. There was a puppet show and a fire in the courtyard at night since it was February. I highly recommend Dera Mandawa.
