A shabby, 50 plus year old houseboat. Very poorly maintained. Room was stinking when we entered. Running the fan for sometime improved the condition. Got the Bed spread, pillow covers, bath towels changed due to dirts, stains and cockroach droppings. Checked in at 20:30 and food was served by 22:30- amidst fight between the host and some other guests over dishes served.The surroundings too not clean. Water pump to the facility and washroom drain is nearby- not sure of the filtering done before distribution to rooms and kitchen.After making a complaint to our travel agent-who promised an accommodation in premier category, ’manager’ of the houseboat made an appearance but he too was helpless other than ensuring a changed set of bedsheets and towelsIn addition, no kettle in the room, no WiFi, no bathroom exhaust ’’Dinner and breakfast quality was ok even though the spread was pretty limited.Won’t recommend anyone trying to make a Kashmiri houseboat experience ’’

The hospitality provided by the care taker was great. However, the rooms smell like mould. They were not cleaned at all, one could see old stains everywhere. It was supposed to be vintage, but we didn't enjoy it at all. We were staying in ST 5.

Beautiful Houseboat set amongst the Lotus Garden in Mahasarit Tal or Dal Lake as it is known currently. Houseboats are neat and clean and fairly warm during winters. Vendors come on shikaras to sell tea, snacks, fruits, flowers and other daily items. A mist visit place. Go on a shikari ride in the evening and enjoy the sunset on the lake. You will have an amazing experience.

Very beautiful and cozy houseboat. The bed also was comfortable. The workers - Mr Ahmed & Mr Uzair was very nice person and helpful. It was a pleasant stay here in Mahajong Houseboat. Will definately come again!!

This was my first experience in a houseboat and thanks to this one that I’m finally getting an opportunity to experience this. It is absolutely luxurious and the price totally justifies for the same. Rooms are spacious, clean and hygienic bathrooms with equipment bathtubs, room heater, bed heater, everything available. Meals are homely and delicious. Staff is very courteous and helpful, and go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. Highly recommend when in Kashmir
