No Daytime Flights From Kochi Airport Until March 2020

Kochi Airport has suspended all flight operations between 10 AM to 6 PM, beginning from today, November 20, 2019, until March 28, 2020. This is due to the four-month-long runway resurfacing work at the Cochin International Airport (CIAL).

According to reports, the Cochin International Airport had begun preparations for the resurfacing in advance, to make sure that only a few flight services were cancelled or rescheduled.

Cochin International Airport was able to accommodate most flight services in its operational hours, which reduced from 24 to 16 hours a day.

Among the cancelled flights, there is one flight to the Maldives operated by SpiceJet and four other domestic flights.

The resurfacing is being done to ensure the optimum level of friction to ensure precision landing by airplanes. CIAL started operations in 1999 and had its first resurfacing in 2009. The current resurfacing project will cost nearly 150 crores and is expected to complete on time.
