Cyclone Nivar: Tamil Nadu, Puducherry on Red Alert; Railways Cancels Several Trains

The fourth cyclone of 2020, Nivar, is presently developing in the southern part of the Bay of Bengal. It is expected to hit the coast between Mamallapuram (Tamil Nadu) and Karaikal (Puducherry) districts on the afternoon of November 25.

As per the Director-General of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the cyclone Nivar will impact the coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry between November 24 and 26, i.e. between today and Thursday.

All of these areas will be experiencing heavy to very heavy rainfall during this time.


Keeping this in mind, the Southern Railways has fully or partially cancelled several trains for November 24 and 25. Here are the details: 

1. Train No. 06865/06866 Chennai Egmore – Thanjavur – Chennai Egmore Special is fully cancelled on 24th and 25th November, 2020.

2. Train No. 06232 Mysore – Mayiladuthurai Special with journey commencing on 24th November, 2020 is partially cancelled between Tiruchchirappalli and Mayiladuturai.

3. Train No. 06795/06796 Chennai Egmore – Tiruchchirappalli – Chennai Egmore Special is fully cancelled on 25th November, 2020.

4. Train No. 06188 Ernakulam – Karaikal Special with journey commencing on 24th November, 2020 is partially cancelled between Tiruchchirappalli and Karaikal.

5. Train No. 06231 Mayiladuthurai – Mysore Special with journey commencing on 25th November, 2020 is partially cancelled between Mayiladuturai and Tiruchchirappalli.

Train No. 02898 Bhubaneswar – Puducherry Special with journey commencing on 24th November, 2020 is partially cancelled between Chennai Egmore and Puducherry.

7. Train No. 02084 Coimbatore – Mayiladuthurai Jan Shatabdi Special with journey commencing on 25th November, 2020 is partially cancelled between Tiruchchirappalli and Mayiladuturai.

8. Train No. 06187 Karaikal – Ernakulam Special with journey commencing on 25th November, 2020 is partially cancelled between Karaikal and Tiruchchirappalli.

9. Train No.02868 Puducherry – Howrah Superfast Special with journey commencing on 25th November, 2020 is partially cancelled between Puducherry and Villupuram.

10. Train No. 02083 Mayiladuturai – Coimbatore Jan Shatabdi Special with journey commencing on 25th November, 2020 is partially cancelled between Mayiladuturai and Tiruchchirappalli.

11. Train No. 02897 Puducherry – Bhubaneswar Special with journey commencing on 25th November, 2020 is partially cancelled between Puducherry and Chennai Egmore.
