Jaipur International Airport, named after the historic capital city it serves and historically referred to as Sanganer Airport due to its location, is the primary aviation portal for Rajasthan. It was officially granted international status by the Government of India on December 29, 2005, following decades of domestic service that began in 1948. The facility did not replace an existing airport but evolved from a regional airfield into a major commercial hub. According to 2023-2024 traffic data, it ranks as the 13th busiest airport in India, handling over 5.4 million passengers annually. Key milestones in its development include the inauguration of the glass-and-steel Terminal 2 in July 2009 and the transition of its operations to the Adani Group under a 50-year lease starting in October 2021. The airport earned global recognition when the Airports Council International ranked it first in the world for service quality in the 2 to 5 million passenger category for both 2015 and 2016.
