DEVASHOLA HOMESTAY

Based on the Agoda reviews, we decided to go ahead with this homestay despite it being quite far from Ooty city. Unfortunately, the actual experience was extremely disappointing, and this was one of the worst stays I have experienced.A day before our check-in, we came to know that the property serves only vegetarian food. While this was not clearly known to us earlier, the bigger concern was that they did not allow us to bring our own food either.We reached the property around 8:45 PM, although dinner service had started at 8:30 PM. The available dinner was chapati and curry, beetroot palya, rice and rasam. By the time we arrived, the beetroot palya was already over, and when we requested them to prepare it again, they simply refused. The rasam was also over and was prepared later, but the taste was completely different from what was initially served.The basic room amenities were also poorly managed. There was no soap provided in our room. We noticed soap was available in my brother's room, but when we requested one for our room, the request was simply ignored and no effort was made to provide it. Eventually, the next morning, we had to ask someone from outside the property to get soap for us.The most frustrating issue was the water supply. At around 8:45 AM, there was completely no water in the property. Despite multiple follow-ups, it took almost an hour for the water supply to be restored. Even then, the water was extremely muddy and was not usable for bathing or any other purpose.We were also informed that breakfast would include idli, vada, chutney and dosa. However, in reality, there was no dosa at all, and the breakfast options were limited to idli and vada.Overall, the experience was far below what we expected based on the Agoda reviews. The location being far from Ooty was something we were willing to accept because of the estate setting and surroundings, but basic hospitality, communication, water availability, amenities and food service should not be compromised.The views and estate surroundings are definitely a positive, but unfortunately, the overall stay experience was very disappointing. I would not recommend this property based on my experience.The one positive aspect is the location itself. The property is situated within an estate and has beautiful views, and it is a good place to take a morning walk and enjoy the surroundings. However, unfortunately, the overall hospitality and basic services did not match the expectations.

Our 2nd trip to Devshola home stay. The palaniappa cottage is located in a serene and scenic surroundings. Mr.Aswin, the owner, gave suitable instructions to the staff, which was coordinated well by Mr.Balaji with the staff, to make our stay comfortable. The staff were courteous. Recommended for family trips.

Peaceful and quiet setting, clean rooms and bathrooms, tasty vegetarian meals, and prompt, excellent service. Stayed at Mango Tree Bungalow during the August 2026 long weekend.

A comfortable stay with good value overall. The rooms are very good size, the garden and view has a pleasant touch.Staff were helpful and food was really great. For our liking, it was Vegetarian food.The main drawback was bathroom, so expectations should be kept realistics.
