The Elgin Darjeeling

I arrived at Elgin Darjeeling with high hopes since my friends had positive experiences there, but I was very let down. The location and dining were the only positives; the food was excellent and the dining staff provided great service. However, there were several negatives: we were not informed that the spa was under renovation and unavailable, our room was next to the construction site with workers starting at 4am causing noise disturbances, the TV was very small and non-functional, the bath linens were worse than those in a budget motel, the hotel did not offer complimentary tea service unlike the nearby Mayfair, there was no receptionist available in the morning when we needed assistance, and the manager was unhelpful and dismissive of our concerns. I would avoid staying here and prefer other hotels like the Mayfair or Ramada.

My 11 th stay at this hotel. Incredible staff and wonderful amenities. Will always stay here.

The rooms are spacious, clean, and comfortable, so no complaints there. The service was decent, though nothing particularly memorable. My biggest disappointment was the TV. It's not a smart TV, and many of the channels weren't even subscribed to. We were there during the FIFA World Cup, and despite everyone at the hotel’from the reception staff to the restaurant staff’speaking in English, the only sports channel available had Hindi commentary. It wasn't a deal-breaker, but it definitely took away from the experience and wasn't something I expected from a hotel in this category. We had breakfast at the hotel once, and it was pretty average. We also ordered a plate of chicken pakoras, which cost around ’500, and honestly, it wasn't worth the price. The nearby mall has plenty of restaurants with much better food and better value, so I'd recommend eating there instead.Overall, the rooms were the highlight of the stay, but the food and entertainment options left quite a bit to be desired.

The rooms were roomy, clean, and comfortable, so I have no complaints there. The service was okay, though nothing stood out. My main letdown was the TV; it wasn't a smart TV, and many channels weren't included in the subscription. We stayed during the FIFA World Cup, and even though everyone at the hotel spoke English, the only sports channel had commentary in Hindi. It wasn't a deal-breaker but did lessen the experience and was unexpected for a hotel of this caliber. We had breakfast once at the hotel, which was average. We also ordered chicken pakoras for about ₹500, which didn't feel worth the price. The nearby mall offers many restaurants with better food and value, so I'd suggest eating there instead. Overall, the rooms were the best part of the stay, but the food and entertainment options were lacking.

A decent spot.
