I would say it is an average hotel considering the price that they charge. The restaurant/food is a big disappointment both in terms of spread and taste. Some places I could see cigarette butts near the lobby areas and all; which I would not expect when you charge this much.

A Perfect, Peaceful Staycation with Exceptional Service (with a few minor hiccups)I visited The Fern Lonavala (Valvan) last weekend for a 3-day staycation with my parents, and our primary goal was just to rest and rewind. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our time and didn’t even feel the need to leave the property!The Room & Comfort* The Upgrade: We initially booked a Winter Green Room, but the very welcoming reception staff accommodated an early check-in and offered us an upgrade to the Hazel Suite for a small price.* The Space: We stayed in Room 216. The suite was incredibly spacious, cozy, and featured beautiful mountain views from the balcony. A special shoutout to the size of the bathroom, which is quite huge!* The Hiccups: Because it was raining very heavily and our room was on the 2nd floor just below the terrace, we experienced two minor water leakage spots. We also had a randomly flickering bedroom light. The manager kindly offered to change our room, but we were already too settled in to move.Food & Dining* Breakfast Spread: The breakfast buffet is massive! They feature live counters (parathas, dosas, pancakes, omelettes) alongside dedicated stations for Maharashtrian (misal pav, poha, vada), South Indian, North Indian, and even Gujarati options (dhokla, sev khamani).* Glass Caf?? (Lunch/Dinner): We ate all our meals here. I highly recommend the Paneer Platter (very generous portions), Chowk ki Tikki, and Dal Khichdi. While the service was occasionally a bit slow, the delicious food made the wait completely worth it.* Leaf & Stalk: Thanks to our room upgrade, we received coupons for complimentary beverages. We opted for mocktails, which were great and had a decent amount of choices, though I felt the ambiance here could be a bit more refined.* Staff Shoutout: A heartfelt thank you to Chandra, LT, Sasha, and Ruthy at Glass Caf?? for making our stay so special. My dad especially cherished his lovely conversation with Ruthy about the North East, which really made us feel at home.Amenities & Facilities* Spa & Gym: I booked a Swedish Massage for my parents. They were a bit shy initially but came out feeling incredibly relaxed and refreshed. Meanwhile, I hit the gym, which is surprisingly well-equipped with an elliptical, cycle, treadmill, bench, press machine, and a full dumbbell rack.* Recreation: The basement has a kids' area and decent games like snooker, carrom, table tennis, and air hockey.* Housekeeping: The room service and housekeeping staff were fantastic’always on their toes, very polite, and courteous whenever we requested service.Location & Commute* The Vibe: It’s located in Valvan, a bit isolated from the main Lonavala city center. This means it lacks walkable markets or promising food joints right outside, but it guarantees peaceful, blissful mornings away from the noise.* Travel: It’s super convenient if you are driving via the Expressway from Mumbai or Pune. If arriving by train, an auto from the station will cost around ’150’’200 depending on the time of day.A Quick Eco-Suggestion for the Hotel:As a small piece of constructive feedback, instead of using small individual bottles for shampoo and body wash, a great eco-friendly move would be to use refillable bottles mounted directly to the bathroom walls.Final Verdict:Though it leans a bit on the premium side, if you are looking to hit pause on city life and want a quiet, relaxing staycation with excellent hospitality, this property is absolutely worth it.

I spent two nights at The Fern, Lonavala. The rooms were roomy, clean, and cozy, and the breakfast offered a good selection. These were the positive aspects of my visit. However, the service was the biggest letdown. Despite being promoted as a 5-star hotel, the hospitality did not meet the standards I would expect from such a place. Upon arrival, although valet parking was available, the security guard asked me to park the car outside myself. I also had to carry my own luggage from the car to the hotel entrance, which was a disappointing first impression. During my stay, the response to requests was consistently slow. Some were fulfilled only after a long delay, and others required follow-up because they were initially ignored. The service lacked the attentiveness and promptness one expects from a high-end hotel. The gym and indoor games area were also disappointing. Both are in the basement, making the space feel cramped, poorly ventilated, and stifling. Instead of enjoyable amenities, they seemed like facilities included just to meet 5-star criteria. Overall, while the rooms and breakfast were satisfactory, the slow service and disappointing recreational facilities made the stay not worthy of a 5-star rating.
