The Montail Udaipur

The place was nice and calm, ideal for couples to stay.

My stay at The Montail Resort was very disappointing. I chose it based on positive reviews, but it did not meet my expectations at all. The bathroom was poorly cleaned and smelled bad due to inadequate ventilation. Room service was very slow; I had to call multiple times even for simple requests like water bottles or room cleaning. The biggest problem was the lack of hot water. On the first morning, despite waiting over 30 minutes after calling, I had to bathe with cold water along with my 4-year-old son. The next day, it took almost an hour to get a bucket of hot water, and only after I expressed my frustration did they provide it quickly. The swimming pool was also disappointing; on the second day, the water was dirty and smelly, and the filtration system was off. Even after asking staff to turn it on, nothing happened for over 25 minutes, and they only cleaned it manually, which was insufficient. The snacks in the room appeared complimentary but were actually charged at very high prices. It would be better to offer a menu rather than placing them openly. We also waited nearly 50 minutes for a rental scooter that was promised but eventually canceled. Having visited Udaipur multiple times, this was by far my worst hotel experience, and I would not recommend this resort, especially for families.

Pleasant and cozy accommodation

My stay at Hotel Montail in Udaipur was very disappointing from beginning to end. The property looks nothing like the photos shown online, which seem to be taken with a drone and wide-angle lens to make it appear much bigger than it really is. The actual hotel is much smaller, which feels misleading. The rooms were poorly kept; in several rooms we booked, balcony door handles fell off in our hands and curtain rods came down just by trying to move the curtains. These are basic upkeep problems that should not happen in a hotel. The food prices were another big issue. The dine-in menu was overpriced, and even simple items like soft drinks cost 5 to 6 times their usual price. Since the hotel is far from the city and the nearest railway station, this felt like exploitation. Worse, they do not offer any pickup or drop-off service despite the remote location. The worst incident was in a bathroom where the glass shower door suddenly shattered while someone was showering. Luckily, no serious injury occurred, but it could have been very dangerous. Even more upsetting was the management and staff's reaction—they showed no concern, did not apologize, and were completely indifferent. I've never seen such poor guest service. While maintenance problems can happen, what matters is how the hotel responds when guest safety is at risk. Sadly, Hotel Montail failed badly in this. I would not suggest this hotel to anyone seeking safe, comfortable, and honest hospitality.

Visited with family for dinner; the restaurant was pleasant with tasty food and excellent service. The most impressive part was the warm welcome from the staff, who greeted everyone, which I appreciated a lot as a hotelier. The location was somewhat remote.
