Amritara The Poovath Beachfront Heritage

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lovely, heritage hotel. The staff was courteous, helpful, and friendly, although some of the younger ones, perhaps, could benefit from a bit more experience and training ’ but this is something we have noticed everywhere throughout our eight week trip in India unless we were staying at a super deluxe five star hotel. The location of the hotel is excellent and our room, number 102, had a fabulous view of the Dutch cemetery and the sea beyond. I think we had the best room! There is no air-conditioning in the lobby or common areas, but they are open to the lovely breezes, and we liked the open-air feeling of the hotel. The gentleman who appeared to be the manager of the hotel was very accommodating and friendly.

We stayed at this hotel in February 2026.The water in the bathroom taps came out brown and smelled. When we asked the staff nothing happened after many hours we were informed it was contaminated. But no feedback as to what it was.Mosquitoes in the room.Staff don’t know what they are serving and don’t understand when you talk to them.They lost my laundry and no compensation.They said they would refund one night but nothing.The regional and manager of hotel management said they’d give us a refund and compensation for my laundry but nothing!DONOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL.

This was originally a 2 Star rating for the reasons below however I took the trouble to email their head office asking that the OPs director read my review. That was over a week ago maybe a 1 Star rating will catch their eye.Of the 9 hotels we have stayed in so far in Southern India this is by far the worst managed property - maybe summed up by how pleasantly surprised we were when the woman who appeared to be in charge smiled warmly ( not her default look) and asked if we would like our room made up. We returned 3 hours later but of course like the previous day the room was untouched.The pool man would put the towels out at about 7.00am and after that no member of staff would go near the pool leaving whatever litter,empty cans & used towels until the pool man returns the next morning.The food at breakfast was good but the service laughable - 20 minutes or more to get a cup of coffee and all of the staff including the manager ignoring all the used cutlery and plates covering every table . The only interested ones were the crows .The staff are lovely just need some training.The one exception was the bearded gentleman who I took to be the assistant manager- he reacted promptly and efficiently.I can only assume this was well run in the past judging by the score .Our room was very nice but you could hear people in the room above and on the stairs .

We had a lovely stay at Amritara. The rooms were nice and spacious and the amenities are comparable to American standards which was convenient for us. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The location is a convenient and easy 10 min walk from the Fort Kochi water metro and in a very quiet area. Also easy walk to all the souvenir shops and amazing restaurants and beach walk area.

Extremely Disappointing Experience ’ Absolutely Not Worth the PriceThis was hands down one of the worst hotel stays I’ve ever had. The staff were shockingly uncourteous, showing absolutely no basic hospitality or decency. Not only did they refuse to assist with our luggage, but their attitude made it clear that guests are more of an inconvenience than a priority.Privacy in the rooms was practically non-existent. At no point did we feel comfortable or safe ’ it honestly didn’t even feel appropriate to change clothes inside the room due to the lack of privacy. This is unacceptable for any hotel, let alone one charging a premium.The food was another major letdown. Terrible quality, poor taste, and nowhere close to what you’d expect for the price. There wasn’t even a proper buffet spread, which is shocking considering how much we paid. The options were limited, poorly managed, and felt more like an afterthought than a service.Overall, this place is grossly overpriced and delivers nothing in return ’ no comfort, no safety, no hospitality, and no value for money. I would strongly advise anyone to avoid this hotel and save themselves the frustration and disappointment. Definitely not worth the price.
