A regal reception with a private boat ride, rose petals showered at arrival, and round-the-clock personal butler service. Experiencing the sunrise or sunset over Lake Pichola from the palace courtyard is truly unforgettable. The Jharokha dining areas stand out for their excellent cuisine and romantic setting. Evening folk dance performances in the main courtyard, heritage tours, and sunset lake cruises are absolutely amazing. Everything was close by, clean, and very enjoyable. Grateful for the excellent food and service.

Staying at the Taj Lake Palace is a great choice.

A negative experience during checkout left a strong bad impression that greatly overshadowed our visit. When we checked in, hotel staff told us we could keep our room until about 1:30 PM on departure day because our flight from Udaipur to Delhi was at 4 PM. So, on checkout morning, we asked the receptionist, Ms. Asra, to send a luggage cart to our room at 1:30 PM. What happened next was unexpected. Instead of acknowledging the earlier promise or politely explaining, Ms. Asra sharply said checkout was at noon and since it was nearly 11 AM, we needed to hurry. We gently reminded her of the earlier assurance, but she said no extension was possible because some “regular guests” were arriving and they preferred the suite we were in. This was especially disappointing. As guests at a luxury hotel, we understand rooms must be ready for new arrivals and checkout times exist for good reasons, but we were relying on the hotel’s promise and needed extra time due to our flight and my wife’s health. A polite reply like, “We wish we could extend checkout, but guests are arriving and we ask you to leave by 12 or at latest 12:30 so we can prepare the room,” would have been fine. Instead, the reply was cold and dismissive, and mentioning the “regular guests” made us feel uncomfortable, as if their preferences mattered more than ours as first-time visitors. We have stayed at many Taj hotels and are Taj Epicure Silver members, yet this interaction was far below those standards. We returned to our room and made sure to leave by about 12:30 PM, even though my wife was still unwell. Later, when we came to check out, Ms. Asra seemed to purposely ignore us and attend to other things instead of greeting us. The General Manager, however, listened carefully, took the issue seriously, and apologized sincerely for how we were treated. He said he already knew about concerns with this staff member and had received similar feedback before. He was very courteous and made sure we didn’t leave without having a meal. What made this more disappointing was comparing it to our three-night stay at The Oberoi Udaivilas just before Taj Lake Palace. At Udaivilas, we truly felt honored guests. The warmth, attention, and personalized care made us feel welcome throughout. This review isn’t about refusing a checkout extension. Hotels have the right to enforce checkout times when needed. It’s about how the situation was handled and, more importantly, how the guest was made to feel. Luxury hospitality isn’t just about the room, location, view, or design. It’s about the feeling guests leave with. We hope management takes this feedback seriously, especially since the General Manager admitted similar concerns about this staff member had been raised before. Our disappointment is not with the hotel or its stunning setting, but with a preventable failure in basic courtesy and guest care that overshadowed what should have been a memorable stay.

We promised our daughters a magical holiday, and Taj Lake Palace truly delivered. My daughters enjoyed every single moment. The staff were incredibly attentive, making us feel very special throughout our stay. Our room was upgraded, adding to the unforgettable experience. It felt like living inside a beautiful painting. The food suggestions were perfect for our tastes. The boat rides were especially memorable. My 7-year-old daughter was scared to get on the boat at first, but thanks to Rajubhai's kindness and encouragement, she overcame her fear. Now, that fear is gone, and this memory will stay with her for a long time. The farewell gift was a lovely gesture, and its scent will always remind us of Taj Lake Palace and the warm smiles of the staff. These thoughtful details and wonderful memories will definitely bring us back. And we surely will return.

Während unserer Rundreise durch Indien war die erste Station das Taj Lake Palace in Udaipur – ein wahr gewordener Kindheitstraum. Seit ich diesen über 280 Jahre alten Palast im James Bond Film Oktopussy gesehen hatte, wollte ich ihn unbedingt einmal live erleben. Nun stand ich unterhalb des Stadtpalastes in Udaipur, und das Boot zur Überfahrt wartete bereits. Der Fahrer des Hotels hatte uns am Flughafen abgeholt. Unser Gepäck wurde ins Boot geladen, wir erhielten Schwimmwesten, und nach etwa fünf Minuten erreichten wir den Anleger. Dort wurden wir von einem Mitarbeiter in königlicher Kleidung freundlich begrüßt. Beim Aufstieg zum Eingang fielen Rosenblätter vom Himmel – hier wird der Gast wirklich königlich empfangen. Im Eingangsbereich war ich überwältigt von der Pracht. Wir wurden herzlich mit einem alkoholfreien Begrüßungsgetränk empfangen, während das Personal uns eincheckte. Kurz darauf führte uns eine sehr freundliche Mitarbeiterin im zauberhaften Sari zu unseren Zimmern und erzählte unterwegs viel über den Sommerpalast des Maharadschas. Marmorböden, verwinkelte Treppenhäuser – und dann erreichten wir unsere Suite. Die Tür wurde geöffnet: Wow! Blick auf den See, Erker, Kingsize-Betten, Marmorbäder, Obstschale und ausreichend Taj Mineralwasser, das täglich aufgefüllt wurde. Nach einer erfrischenden Dusche erkundeten wir das Hotel und hatten Hunger. Das Taj Lake Palace verfügt über drei Restaurants, von denen eines nur im Winter auf der Dachterrasse geöffnet ist. Da wir in der Regenzeit mit 34 Grad und hoher Luftfeuchtigkeit dort waren, entschieden wir uns für das erste Restaurant mit internationaler Küche und indischem Einfluss. Das Personal war äußerst freundlich und zuvorkommend, hier wird wirklich alles möglich gemacht. Die Preise entsprechen etwa denen in Deutschland, also Upperclass für indische Verhältnisse. Wegen der Hitze wählten wir zuerst einen frischen Salat, alles wurde frisch zubereitet. Der Chefkoch hat einen Michelin-Stern. Wir genossen unser Essen und waren glücklich und zufrieden, bevor wir spät am Abend zu Bett gingen. Am nächsten Morgen wachten wir gut erholt auf, frühstückten vom reichhaltigen Buffet mit internationaler und indischer Küche – ein Genuss auf höchstem Niveau. Als Aktivität gönnte ich mir eine Gesichtsbehandlung, darüber habe ich bereits in einer anderen Bewertung berichtet. Sehr empfehlenswert ist der täglich stattfindende Folkloreabend mit Musik und Tanz. Für Romantiker ist die abendliche Bootsfahrt auf dem See ein Muss – der Blick auf das Taj Lake Palace, den Stadtpalast und die Umgebung ist atemberaubend. Besonderer Dank gilt unserem Guide Farit, der uns in gut verständlichem Englisch viel erklärt hat, sowie Disha, deren Service ausgezeichnet war, besonders als ich wegen einer Erkältung mit Fieber einen Arzt brauchte. Alles in allem ein besonderer Ort, der auf jede Liste eines romantischen Menschen gehört. Wir kommen wieder, das ist ein Versprechen.
