It was our anniversary, and I chose Mewar by Vineet at The Oberoi Udaivilas expecting a memorable evening for my family. While the food, cocktails, and service inside the restaurant were exceptional, the events that followed dinner completely overshadowed the experience.At the time of booking, I clearly informed the reservations team that we were a family of three, including our 2-year-old daughter, and that we would need transportation back to Taj Lake Palace after dinner. I was assured that Oberoi could arrange the drop by boat until 10 PM and that there would be no charge if arranged by the hotel. Based on this assurance, we proceeded with our reservation.However, after dinner, we were escorted to the pier only to discover that no transportation had actually been arranged. What followed was not merely a communication failure’it became a serious safety concern.My wife, toddler, and I were left standing at a dark lakeside pier while staff tried to determine who was responsible for arranging our return. There was a boatman present who was capable of dropping us back. In fact, one of the guards himself acknowledged that it was unsafe to leave a family with a young child at the pier and requested the boatman to take us across. Yet, instead of helping, both the boatman and the guard disappeared from the area altogether, leaving the three of us completely alone.For several minutes, we stood unattended in darkness beside the lake with our toddler. Bats were flying low, there was no visible staff presence, and no one was available to guide, assist, or even reassure us. The most disappointing part was that the very people who had recognized the safety risk chose to walk away rather than ensure our safe return.Strangely, both the guard and boatman reappeared only after the Taj boat arrived to collect us’something I had independently arranged within minutes by calling Taj directly. This only reinforced the feeling that guest safety and accountability were not being treated with the seriousness they deserved.Operational mistakes can happen, and delays can be forgiven. What cannot be overlooked is abandoning guests’especially a family with a 2-year-old child’at an isolated, dark pier after acknowledging that the situation was unsafe. Luxury hospitality is defined not by grand properties or fine dining alone, but by how guests are cared for when things do not go according to plan.Mewar’s cuisine was outstanding, and our daughter thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Unfortunately, the negligence, lack of ownership, and disregard for our family’s safety at the end of the evening turned what should have been a cherished anniversary memory into a deeply disappointing experience.Mr Tilak tried to reach us so that this truth can be hidden at public forum and invited us to visit again but even he had no answer to my questions regarding safety of a family and no corrective actiobns has been taken by them yet. It was a shameful way of getting the reviews deleted on public forum.

As a seasoned traveller who has stayed at many luxury hotels around the world, this was my second stay at The Oberoi Udaivilas, and somehow it was even more special than the first.The property is beautiful, but what truly makes it exceptional is the people. Every member of staff was warm, attentive and genuine, striking the perfect balance of service without ever feeling intrusive.We were celebrating my parents’ upcoming 50th anniversary and the team created a wonderful surprise that made the occasion even more memorable.The hotel has a magical atmosphere, especially in the evenings, and by the time we left we genuinely didn’t want to. A truly exceptional experience and one of the finest hotels I have ever stayed at.

We had an unforgettable and memorable trip at Udaivilas . We have celebrated my daughter’s 2nd birthday there and they made it so special for us. The surprise which they had planned for us was really amazing. The property is so beautiful and huge. We were there for 1 day but it wasn’t enough for us. The staff was so humble, polite, kind and professional at the same time. Thank you for making this day so wonderful for us.
