Guleria Kothi – Heritage by the Ganges

Initially, we intended to stay only one day, but the amazing location and stunning views convinced us to stay longer. We happily extended our visit at Guleria Haveli and cherished every minute. The tranquil atmosphere, beautiful environment, and overall experience went beyond what we expected. We strongly suggest Guleria Haveli for anyone seeking a memorable and peaceful getaway.

I had one of the worst hotel experiences of my life at Guleria Kothi, Varanasi.Before making the booking, I called the hotel directly. I was specifically promised a River View Room, and based on that assurance I paid ’14,000 in advance. However, after arriving at the property, I was informed that the room was ’subject to availability’ and was no longer available. This was never communicated to me before taking the payment.During the booking call, I was also told that the hotel would arrange a boat ride to watch the evening Ganga Aarti from the river and bring us back to the hotel. I was also assured that visits to Kaal Bhairav Temple and Kashi Vishwanath Temple were included as part of the experience.After checking in, we were told to pay ’2,000 per person for Kaal Bhairav Temple and ’3,000’’5,000 per person for Kashi Vishwanath Temple, depending on the type of darshan. One of the individuals I dealt with, who identified himself as Aman, collected ’5,000 per person for what was described as a special darshan arrangement. In my experience, the service provided did not match what had been promised. We were called at 3:15 AM, made to stand in the regular queue from around 4:30 AM, and completed darshan only around 6:30 AM. We received no VIP access, no priority entry, and certainly no ’Sparsh Darshan’ as promised. It was the same queue as everyone else.The Ganga Aarti arrangement was equally disappointing. Instead of the promised boat experience, we were simply dropped near the ghat and told to walk up, watch the Aarti ourselves, and call later so someone could arrange a boat back. This was completely different from what had been promised before booking.The service inside the hotel was just as poor. Our check-in was delayed by the hotel, which caused us to be about 10 minutes late for high tea. Despite the delay being their fault, the staff refused to serve it. We also had no proper dinner arrangement after returning late from the temple visit.Overall, I felt that attractive promises were made before payment, but once the money was collected, those promises were not honoured. My experience with the management, staff, and the arrangements made through their associated agents was extremely disappointing.I strongly recommend that future guests confirm every promise, service, and additional charge in writing before making any payment. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this hotel.

The hotel service was poor, with delayed check-in causing us to miss high tea, which was not served despite the delay being their fault, and no proper dinner after the temple visit. Overall, promises made before payment were not fulfilled, and the management and staff were very disappointing. I advise future guests to get all promises and charges in writing before paying. I cannot recommend this hotel based on my experience.
