The Eastern and South Eastern Railways have announced that 696 suburban trains will resume services in Kolkata starting from November 11, 2020. These trains were earlier suspended keeping in mind the nationwide lockdown against the coronavirus. These are all stoppage trains, with no special coaches for women.
In a statement released on November 6, the Eastern Railways confirmed that these local trains will be resuming after consulting the West Bengal state government.

Book IRCTC Trains“This is subject to strict observance of mandatory COVID-19 protocols,” said the Eastern Railways, “and all necessary safety measures prior to initiation of services, e.g, wearing of masks, social distancing etc.”
The Eastern Railway has 4 divisions, namely Sealdah, Howrah, Malda and Asansol. The resumed trains are only for the Sealdah and Howrah divisions.

The Ministry of Railways also shared pictures of the precautions being taken inside the coaches to keep passengers safe. The photos, shared yesterday on Twitter, show the middle seat in each row marked with an ‘X’ to maintain social distancing. The coaches are also being sanitised:

Validity of expired season tickets will be extended
In a welcome move, the Railways has allowed the revalidation of season train tickets that expired during the lockdown to the extent of days lost. However, passengers must note that tickets will only be available for travel within the suburban sections and the Krishnanagar – Lalgola section.
