Niraamaya Retreats Surya Samudra

The location is stunning, but sadly the stay was disappointing given the cost. Normally, I don't write hotel reviews, but this experience calls for an honest assessment. We stayed at Niraamaya Retreats Surya Samudra in Kovalam, and the property did not meet the expectations set by its luxury branding and price. My advice to anyone considering this resort: request recent, authentic photos of the rooms and property before booking. The resort is about 15 years old, and while some areas are well maintained, paying a premium price comes with basic expectations. The room was a big letdown. Labeling it a luxury vintage property shouldn't mean neglecting basic amenities. There were no proper slippers, towels were below standard, and several basic facilities common even in smaller hotels were missing. The hot water situation in the bathroom was poor; we had to wait for hot water, which was never really hot. More disappointing was the lack of proactive service—no one from management checked if the room needed cleaning or if we were comfortable. The worst part was room service, which was far below what you'd expect from a luxury resort. Orders took a long time, and when nothing arrived, we had to call repeatedly or even go in person, only to leave without resolution and no delivery. Having to chase staff for basic room service was very frustrating. Breakfast was another weak point; although served from 7:30 to 10:30 AM, many items weren't ready even at 8:00 AM, and staff seemed unsure about availability. For the price charged, this level of breakfast service is unacceptable. Yes, the resort has a beautiful beach, pool, and setting, but a great location alone can't make up for poor service and inconsistent guest experience. The main problem is the gap between the price and what is delivered. Guests paying a high rate for luxury expect basic hospitality, proper room amenities, timely service, and attention to detail. I had insisted my travel agent book this place despite his doubts, and I ended up regretting it. I hope management takes this feedback seriously. These may seem like small issues individually, but together they greatly affect the guest experience. The property and location are beautiful, but service, room standards, and basic facilities need major improvement to justify the premium price.

Worst experience in Kerala, no hospitality or service, it feels like being abandoned in the forest. We had to wait an hour just to get our luggage from the room to the reception, and then wait hours for a cart to go from the room to the restaurant, with charges similar to Taj hotels. The room is too large for a small AC that can't even cool the bed area near it. Truly a terrible experience, please don't waste your valuable time and money on such cheap hotels—or resorts, as they call themselves.

My favorite aspects of the stay were the private beach and the infinity pool overlooking the sea. 🌊 The rooms offered comfort, and the ambiance was ideal for unwinding. I made the reservation via Memmsta, and the booking was easy and hassle-free.

Biranchit and Abhijit

This was honestly one of the worst hotel stays I've ever had. I paid about ₹15,000, but the experience didn't even feel worth ₹5,000. From the moment I entered the room, I was very disappointed—there were lizards and lots of mosquitoes. I tried to be patient and didn't make a big deal, but the issues kept coming. There's no food available after 10 PM, no chef or kitchen service, and you can't even get basic items like plates after that time. The staff service was very poor; you have to keep reminding them for everything, whether it's an iron, room cleaning, a toothbrush, or any basic request. The hotel is also very isolated, making it hard to get a cab. If you have an early morning flight, I strongly advise against staying here. That was one of the most stressful parts of our stay. When we left early in the morning, no one answered the phone to help with our luggage. There was no one at the gate and no security. We were left on our own and had to walk over 2 miles to find help. The area was very dark and isolated, and we could barely see anything. It was honestly scary and totally unacceptable for a hotel. On top of all that, the beds were very uncomfortable, and we couldn't get a good night's sleep. Overall, the experience was very disappointing and stressful from start to finish. For what I paid, I expected a much higher standard of service, safety, and comfort. Sadly, I would never want to return to this hotel and wouldn't recommend it to anyone, especially families, women traveling alone, or those with early flights.
